MPS February Break
February 17-21, 2025

We are celebrating 100 days of school!

Coffee and a pastry on a Friday morning? Yes, please!
Thank you to the MHS PTO, MHS parents who generously donate time and funds so these events can happen and to Matt Thayer from American Provisions for the delicious pastry!
And a BIG thank you to our students who coordinated coffee and pastry deliveries throughout the school!

Ms. Kelley's freshman MHS Social Studies class recently participated in their own Peace of Paris Conference, which took place after World War 1.
Students represented different countries at the end of the war and tried to negotiate a peace plan. Our students did a great job staying in character while advocating for their country's rights and realized how difficult it is to make sure each country is represented fairly.

Unified Art Trip to MFA!
As we wrap up a fantastic semester of our MHS Unified Arts class, we were excited that students had the opportunity to attend a field trip to the Museum of Fine Arts during the last week of class.
To fund the trip, students held a successful handmade ornament sale over the holidays. At the museum, they explored artworks that have been central to our studies this semester, including Monet's Waterlilies, Ancient Greek storytelling vessels, traditional African masks, and a large scale modern sculpture by glass artist Dale Chihuly.
This visit allowed students to connect the dots between what they learned in class and the real-life masterpieces they encountered, deepening their appreciation and passion for art. Students were particularly excited to share this experience with their peers, stepping beyond the walls of Milton High to engage in a unique artistic journey. They would like to thank everyone who supported them with the ornament sale - you made this rewarding experience possible.
Students from the Unified Arts class look forward to showcasing their artwork from their very successful first semester at the MHS Fine Arts Show in May!

Last week our schools celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with art, music, reading and writing. In addition, our schools held service events during the week and on MLK Day. Thank you to all who donated and participated!

Celebrating Our Differences (COD) is a 4th grade disability awareness program that helps students understand what it is like to live with different abilities. The program consists of five units which include learning differences, physical differences, vision, hearing, and autism.
Across the five units, the program helps build empathy by incorporating hands on activities with a lecture from a guest speaker to share their personal experiences living with a disability. A highlight of the program is having MPS students serve as guest speakers to share their experiences with their peers. All fourth graders across the four elementary schools participate in the program.
For the 1st lesson of this year, throughout the month of January, our 4th graders participated in the Vision unit. We were excited to welcome back our guest speaker, Dave Lynn. Dave brought his guide dog, Frosty and talked with our students about how he uses his guide dog to help him remain independent and navigate the world despite losing his vision. Students learned about the assistive technology available that individuals with visual impairments use to remain independent, as well as how to respectfully approach and offer to guide an individual with a visual impairment. Thank you to Dave Lynn - and Frosty - for spending time with our students!

This week Ms. Mary Beth's full-day Tucker preschool students worked as teams to wonder about this question: How can you think about the needs and perspectives of others when making something to help them? The children began with a reading and discussion of the classic story Make Way for Ducklings. After much discussion and reflection each team created an integrated Engineering and Empathy Challenge. You can see how proud of their creations each team is!
